About the Center: Teaching Lineage

SYVC has trained over 18,000 Yoga teachers worldwide. Our classes and courses are inspired by the teachings of these two modern Yogis and taught by dedicated volunteers and full-time Yogic practitioners.

Swami Sivananda (1887-1963) was a great Indian Saint with universal teachings presented in more than 300 books.  His teaching is a synthesis of the Four Paths of Yoga and can be summarized in the words: “Serve, Love, Give, Purify, Meditate, Realize.”

Swami Vishnu-devananda (1927-1993) started teaching Yoga in San Francisco in 1957.  He founded the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center (SYVC) and was a leading authority on Hatha and Raja Yoga. He is the author of the "Complete Illustrated Book of Yoga."
